Help Kelowna
A free directory of 860+ verified community resources across 32 categories in Kelowna, West Kelowna, and Lake Country — food support, housing, health services, crisis support, and more. Built in four months. Featured in Kelowna Capital News.
The Challenge
Vulnerable community members in the Okanagan struggled to find local resources — shelters, food banks, mental health services, addiction support. Information was scattered across dozens of websites and outdated PDFs. As founder Lindsey Stead told Kelowna Capital News: “When someone is in crisis, they don’t have time to Google 15 different organizations.”
Our Solution
We built a one-stop directory where anyone can browse 860+ resources across 32 categories serving eight demographic groups including youth, seniors, Indigenous community members, and LGBTQ2S+ individuals. Features include real-time open/closed status, interactive map view, offline access, a three-layer automated verification system that checks listings quarterly, and referral workflows that filter by hours, cost, and proximity. Built and maintained free of charge as part of our annual Community Build Program. Since launch, the platform has attracted 13,000+ page views from word of mouth alone.
